Forfar Golf Club is a course like no other. This remarkable rig and furrow landscape became a unique golfing challenge in 1871, when Old Tom Morris used the land’s natural undulations to reveal a course of movement, angles, and lies that no modern architect could recreate.
Set on land ploughed by monks as far back as the 12th century, Forfar Golf Course stands as the best example of rig and furrow architecture anywhere in the world. Famed for its gravity-defying undulations, the lies and angles here offer a true test for golfers as well as a walk through time.
In 1871, Old Tom Morris designed Forfar Golf Course as an 18-hole course from inception, changing the face of golf forever, and making Forfar the template for every course designed thereafter. Forfar’s historic significance and unique terrain make it a challenge, an unmissable adventure, and a course that will leave you smiling for days after.

The world’s first 18-hole course by design, Old Tom Morris used the land’s natural contours to craft a course of imagination, variety, and strategic brilliance. Many of Morris’ greens remain in play today, making it one of the most authentically preserved Victorian golf courses in the world.
