Set into a rig and furrow landscape that echoes Scotland’s past, Forfar is the world’s first 18-hole course by design, originally laid out by Old Tom Morris and later refined by James Braid. This unique course, set in land carved out by monks many centuries ago, rewards strategy and creativity, and is a golfing experience like no other.
Just 20 minutes from Carnoustie, Forfar Golf Club is the natural inclusion for visitors basing their itinerary around Scotland’s East Coast.

Trolley hire £8
Electric trolley hire £15 (pre-booking advised)
TaylorMade Golf Club hire £50 (women’s and men’s left and right handed sets available, pre-booking is advised. Includes a sleeve of golf balls.)
Buggies
Forfar is a walking course, but a buggy can be hired for £35 if you have a medical certificate or blue badge. Our buggies are self-drive and are on a first come first served basis. While we’ll try to carry the booking over if your tee time changes, this can’t be guaranteed. Buggy hire is subject to ground conditions.

Forfar’s unique rig and furrow terrain makes it a challenge that’s both exhilarating and frustrating in equal measure; make the most of your round with the knowledge, experience, and stories our caddies bring. Each hole at Forfar is different, so let your caddie guide you as you complete one of Scottish golf’s most exciting rounds.

Fees
£70.00 payment should be made directly to the caddie upon completion of your round in UK pounds sterling.
Need to Know
It is strongly recommended that caddies are booked no later than 24 hours in advance. Every endeavour will be made to provide caddies that are requested on the date of play, but we ask that 24 hours’ notice to be given to avoid disappointment.
Our caddies are self-employed, independent contractors. Therefore, there is a natural variability in caddie availability. Our policy is to facilitate one caddie per player. Caddies will caddie one bag and provide services to one player only. During periods of extreme high demand for caddies, a forecaddie service may be offered at the discretion of the Pro Shop.

Visiting Forfar? Here’s everything you need to know
Clubhouse
When we say visitors are members for the day, we mean it. Please enjoy the clubhouse as your own, and we’ll make you welcome each and every time you visit. You can enjoy a full menu of clubhouse classics either in the lounge or our restaurant, Rig & Furrow.
Driving range
Warm up at our driving range – we’ll even throw in complementary balls for your visit.
Before your round
Use the warm up area/putting green before you step up to the first tee.
Facilities
Please feel free to use our locker rooms, toilets, and showers.
Dress Code
We want everyone to look the part, so please wear a collared golf shirt or proper golf apparel, and leave everyday t-shirts, football shirts, and tops with big slogans, numbers, or graphic illustrations at home. Soft spikes are completely fine inside the clubhouse, and any standard golf hats or visors are good to go.
Handicap
While a formal handicap is not required, players are expected to be familiar with basic golf etiquette and maintain a good pace of play.
Where we are
Forfar is perfectly situated for many golfing itineraries. It’s just 20 minutes north of both Carnoustie and Dundee, 40 minutes from Carnoustie, one hour from Trump International, and within a 90 minute drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
Groups
If you’re in a group of less than four, we may pair you up with other golfers.
Parking
Free parking is available in front of the clubhouse, and opposite Rig & Furrow if you’re visiting the restaurant.
Dogs
For the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all members, guests and visitors, dogs are not permitted on the golf course, playing areas or inside the clubhouse.
Course
Using the natural rig and furrow contours, Old Tom Morris crafted a course of imagination, variety, and strategic brilliance. Many of Morris’ greens remain in play today, making it one of the most authentically preserved Victorian golf courses in the world.
Clubhouse
Start your day with a bacon roll and coffee on the terrace overlooking the 18th, then come back to the Clubhouse for lunch in the lounge. You can also book a table at our restaurant, The Rig & Furrow, enjoying a view over the 1st tee, for special occasions and large groups.
Accessibility
Our clubhouse is fully accessible, with ramp access to the clubhouse and to the changing facilities. Our accessible restaurant, bar, toilets and changing facilities are open seven days a week.
